The short version: Stimulus is designed with privacy at its core. All your app data stays on your device. We don't collect, store, or have access to your usage habits or health data. The only information we collect is your email address if you optionally sign up for launch notifications on our website.
Our Privacy Commitment
At Stimulus, we believe privacy is a fundamental right, not a feature to be traded for convenience. We've built our app from the ground up to ensure your personal data never leaves your device.
Launch Notification Email List (Optional)
If you choose to sign up for launch notifications on our website, we collect your email address solely to notify you when Stimulus launches. This is entirely optional and separate from the app itself.
- What we collect: Your email address only
- How we use it: To send launch updates and occasional product news
- Third-party service: We use FormSubmit.co to process form submissions
- Unsubscribe: You can unsubscribe at any time by replying to any email or contacting us
- No sharing: We never sell or share your email with third parties for marketing
This email collection is separate from the Stimulus app. The app itself does not require an account and does not collect your email.
Data We Don't Collect (In the App)
The Stimulus app does not collect, store, transmit, or have access to:
- Your app usage patterns or screen time data
- Your health and fitness data (steps, workouts, exercise minutes)
- Which apps you've rated or blocked
- Your location or movement patterns
- Device identifiers or fingerprints for tracking
- Any analytics about how you use Stimulus
Data Stored on Your Device
Stimulus stores the following data locally on your device only. This data is never transmitted anywhere:
- Profile information: Your name and age (used for personalization within the app)
- App ratings: Which apps you've configured as draining or earning, and their point values
- Daily balance: Your current points balance and daily activity
- Settings: Your preferences for budget, late-night mode, and other configurations
- Inner Landscape state: Your landscape growth progress and season
- Streak data: Your consecutive days of balanced usage
HealthKit Integration
Stimulus integrates with Apple HealthKit to read your steps, exercise minutes, and workout data. This integration:
- Only accesses data you explicitly grant permission for
- Processes all health data locally on your device
- Never transmits health data to any server, including ours
- Can be revoked at any time in your device's Settings app
Apple's HealthKit guidelines prohibit apps from sharing HealthKit data with third parties, and we fully comply with this requirement.
Screen Time API
Stimulus uses Apple's Screen Time API (FamilyControls framework) to monitor app usage and apply shields. This system:
- Operates entirely on-device via Apple's secure framework
- Does not give us access to your app usage data
- Uses opaque tokens that cannot be reverse-engineered to identify specific apps
- Can be disabled at any time by removing Screen Time permissions
Subscriptions & Payments
All payments are processed by Apple through the App Store. We never see or have access to:
- Your payment information or credit card details
- Your Apple ID or account information
- Your billing address
We receive only anonymized transaction confirmations from Apple to verify your subscription status.
Third-Party Services
We rely on the following third-party services to operate the app:
- Apple App Store: For processing all purchases and subscriptions
- Superwall: To manage subscriptions and present paywalls
Superwall may collect anonymized data (such as device identifiers and paywall interaction metrics) according to their own privacy practices. Superwall does not process payments—all transactions are handled directly by Apple. No personally identifiable information from within Stimulus is shared with these services.
Data Deletion
You can delete all your Stimulus data at any time by:
- Using the "Delete All Data" option in the app's Settings
- Uninstalling the app (this removes all locally stored data)
Since we don't store any data on our servers, there's nothing for us to delete on our end.
Children's Privacy
Stimulus is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect any information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new policy on this page and updating the "Last updated" date.
